PMC seizes property of Sinhagad Institute for non-payment of taxes Pune News

The tax and tax collection department of the Pune Municipal Corporation has seized the property of Erandwane-based Sinhagad Technical Institute for non-payment of property tax. According to the seizure warrant by the tax department, the tax owed by the corporation is more than 47 crores.

PMC Deputy Commissioner (Taxation and Tax Collection Department) Madhav Jagtap, who signed the warrant, told The Indian Express, “We had earlier issued a seizure notice but the tax has not been paid. Now we have confiscated the property through Panchnama. If the dues are paid within 30 days, the seizure can be cancelled. If not, the property will be auctioned to collect the dues. According to the shared details, the Rs 47 crore fee is a combination of arrears from 2016-2014. Jagtap said the institute will be allowed to operate normally.

In a letter dated September 24, 2024 from the Deputy Commissioner at Sinhagad Technical Institute, the department sent the property tax demand for FY 2024-2025 under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Rules 1949 to the Corporation, but dues have not been paid. was not It is mentioned that the property tax of more than 47 crores must be paid by 30 September or 2 percent monthly penalty interest will be charged on the said amount. Due to unpaid dues, the tax department has seized the assets of the institute in December.
