A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Bangalore for allegedly trying to recover Rs 2.5 crore by threatening to upload private pictures and videos of his ex-girlfriend online.

According to the Central Crime Branch of the police, the woman blackmailed the accused Mohan Kumar only after she felt helpless despite paying a huge amount of money.

Commissioner of Police B Dayanand said on Friday that Rs 80 lakh was recovered from Kumar and an investigation into the matter was underway.

A police official said Kumar and the woman were classmates between 2019 and 2022. When he completed his BBA, he left the course in the second year and became a realtor. The couple was in a romantic relationship and some of their intimate moments were recorded.

After they later separated, Kumar started blackmailing the woman with intimate photos and videos and she accepted his demands, police said.

The police officer said, “She withdrew cash up to Rs 1.25 crore from the bank accounts of her family members (father and grandmother). Kumar blackmailed her by demanding expensive jewellery, watches, an expensive car and two superbikes. He also got a t-shirt, a gold chain and a ring from her. He had been blackmailing women since 2023.
