Mumbai continued to record a drop in minimum temperature as the city registered 17.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday – a significant drop of eight degrees Celsius in the last two days.

Data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) showed that on Sunday morning, the Santacruz recording station registered 17.6 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees Celsius below normal, while the Colaba Coastal Observatory recorded 20.9 degrees Celsius.

The recent dip in temperature also saw the city’s 37.3 degrees Celsius below 37.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the hottest day since December 2008. Meteorologists attributed the record-breaking temperatures to strong easterlies and low pressure. Which was developed due to Cyclone Fengal.

As the effect of the cyclone is gradually decreasing now, it is expected that the temperature will decrease further in the coming week.

In its forecast bulletin, IMD Mumbai said that the city is likely to witness a pleasant week after December 9 with the minimum temperature expected to drop to 16 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, this day will also bring relief to the citizens with maximum temperature. A repeat of between 31 and 32 degrees Celsius is likely till at least December 14.
