The auction ahead of the third season of the Women’s Premier League will be held on 15 December 2024 in Bengaluru, with 120 players shortlisted.
On Saturday, the BCCI announced the list of players which includes 91 Indian and 29 foreign cricketers, including 3 from Associate Nations. There are also 82 Indian uncapped players and 8 uncapped overseas players. With five teams largely retaining their squads from the second season, there are only 19 slots in total, including 5 slots for foreign players.
West Indies’ star all-rounder Diandra Duttin is perhaps one of the most sought-after names, having recently returned from international retirement and has been impressive in the recent T20 World Cup. He was signed up before Gujarat Giants dropped the first edition amid controversial circumstances surrounding his fitness.
Among the capped Indian players, Gujarat giants released Sneh Rana (who has led the franchise) and the all-rounder is likely to seek bids from other teams. Tejal Hasbanis, who recently made her international debut in the home ODI against New Zealand, will also attract interest.
World Cup winners New Zealand are represented by a single name: pace bowler Rosemary Myer. Other prominent foreign names include Australia’s Kim Garth and Darcy Brown, England’s Heather Knight, Lauren Bell and Maia Bouchier, South Africa’s Nadine de Klerk. UAE’s Samaira Dharanidhark and Tirtha Satish and Scotland’s Sarah Bryce are the three associate national representatives.
