Sukhvir Badal’s assassination attempt: demand for fair investigation Chandigarh news

Calling attempted murder The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) core committee on Friday said it would approach Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to seek “fairness” in senior leader Sukhbir Singh Badal’s “complete attack” on Sikh tradition, Khalsa heritage and its institutions. investigation

The core committee meeting was criticized by the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee (SGPC), which said SAD’s working committee chief Balwinder Singh Bhunder had “embarrassed the community” by calling a meeting with those leaders. Akal resigned from the throne.

Badal escaped an assassination attempt on Wednesday after ex-Khalistani terrorist Narayan Singh Chaura opened fire at close range at the entrance of the Golden Temple in Amritsar. When Chaura was chased by a plainclothes policeman, he missed his target.

The attack was caught on camera by media persons gathered to cover the second day of Badal performing the duty of ‘sevadar’ at a Sikh shrine as a religious penance for “mistakes” committed by the SAD government in Punjab from 2007 to 2017.

The party said that the meeting of the core committee, which is the highest decision-making body of the party, was held under the chairmanship of acting president Balwinder Singh Bhundar.

The committee members alleged that the entire incident was a conspiracy sponsored by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to eliminate the liberal Akali leadership who stood for the ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’ offered by Guru Sahiban. He also said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s behavior in the incident was shameful. “Instead of getting information about the situation after the attack on the holy temple, the Chief Minister is trying to weaken the incident,” said Daljitsinh Cheema, a central member.

“The assassination bid was an attack on the concept and ideology of Miri Piri, a symbol of Akal Takht Sahib and also on the holy Harmandir Sahib which now bears the desecrated bullet marks of an anti-Sikh assassin. This bullet mark is also meant to cover similar bullet marks left by Indira Gandhi,” the committee said.

The committee also made it clear that an attempt was being made to create a situation where Sikh youth could be killed in fake encounters and used as a pretext to launch a new wave of repression. “The killer was not a lone wolf but was actually a member of a pack of wolves. He was only acting as a sharpshooter on behalf of powerful anti-Sikh forces,” it added.

Senior leaders also questioned the presence of Akali leader Gur Pratap Singh Wadala at an event organized by Dal Khalsa in Moga on Thursday. They said Dal Khalsa did not believe in the constitution and stood for Khalistan and asked Wadala to clarify his stand on both issues. It is necessary to mention that Wadala is one of the seven members of the interim committee formed by the Akal Takht to reorganize the Akali Dal. The seven-member committee is yet to convene its first meeting.

It condemned the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib by anti-Sikh forces when a ‘Sevadar’ – Sukhbir Singh Badal was ‘serving’ at the ‘gate’ of the temple.

The committee also appreciated the vigilance and selfless courage shown by ASI Jasbir Singh and his compatriots in foiling the assassination attempt despite making it clear that Jasbir Singh was not supposed to be on duty that day and had come to Darbar Sahib. his own.

‘Defiance of Akal Takht’

Meanwhile, SGPC members expressed concern over the involvement of controversial DGP Sumedh Saini’s lawyer and son of Gurudwara Judicial Commission Satnam Singh Kaler’s son Arshdeep Singh Kaler as the chief spokesperson in the core committee. the meeting

“This participation indicates that the Akali Dal leadership has not learned from past mistakes and is not serious about the sect. Daljit Singh Cheema and NK Sharma, who had submitted their resignations in the past, but attending the meeting is a direct disregard of the directives of the Akal Takht,” a statement issued by the SGPC said. is

The members further commented that the SAD leaders had asked the Akali Takht Jathedar for 10 days to convene a working committee meeting in which all resignations would be accepted. “However, if the core committee meeting can be held, why is the working committee meeting not convened,” asked the SGPC.

However, SGPC strongly condemned the attack on Badal and demanded a judicial inquiry to bring out the truth. They stressed that any fatal attack on someone serving in a service role is “extremely unfortunate”.
