Gujarat: ‘Minimally Invasive Surgery’ for Esophageal Cancer in Women at Vadodara Hospital Ahmedabad News

A 38-year-old woman from Jitgarh village in Narmada district underwent “minimally invasive surgery for esophageal cancer” at Vadodara’s SSG Hospital, a hospital statement said.

“After receiving radiation therapy at SSG Hospital, the patient underwent a minimally invasive, three-stage esophagectomy. This complex procedure involves small keyhole incisions to separate the esophagus from the heart, great vessels, windpipe and lungs, avoiding a large chest incision and ensuring a quick recovery. ” the statement said. Generally, esophageal cancer surgery requires surgical intervention in the throat, chest and abdomen, making it an extremely complicated procedure, the hospital said.

According to SSG Hospital, all treatments including radiation and surgery were provided free under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Since March, SSG Hospital has successfully completed more than 60 major cancer surgeries, with most of the beneficiaries coming from low-income backgrounds and under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, SSG Hospital said.
