An explosion in a neighborhood of the Dutch capital early Saturday destroyed several apartments and injured several people, according to officials.
The cause of the outbreak in The Hague is unclear.
Emergency officials said four people were rescued from the wreckage and taken to hospital, but it was unclear how many people were still under the rubble.
A line of ambulances can be seen waiting nearby in anticipation of more victims. The spokesperson of the local hospital said that they are in a state of preparation for the treatment of the injured.
Local residents are afraid of earthquakes
Residents of The Hague’s northeastern neighborhood of Mariahov heard loud bangs and screams before dawn. One woman told local media it felt like an earthquake.
Dutch authorities deployed a special urban search and rescue team to the scene, training four dogs to search for victims. This team was previously used in the devastating earthquake in Turkey in 2023.
