The state government has constituted an 11-member Gujarat State Vulture Conservation Committee under the chairmanship of Chief Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Conservator to protect vultures in the state.
The member-secretary of the panel will be the director of Sakkarbagh Zoo, Junagadh. Sources said the panel will include representatives of the New Delhi-based Central Zoo Authority and other officials as well as experts on vultures.
The panel will adopt various measures to protect the vulture, such as monitoring its population, inspecting carcasses, creating safe zones, establishing conservation centers and ensuring implementation of the ban on the use of the drug diclofenac.
