Thailand floods: Giant reticulated python seen in flood waters after ‘eating dog’, chilling video goes viral | Trending news

Monsoon rains have caused devastating floods in Malaysia and southern Thailand, displacing thousands and killing dozens. According to Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, at least 25 people have died and more than 300,000 households have been seriously affected by the floods.

Amidst the heartbreaking scenes of rescue and evacuation efforts, one particular video has shocked social media users. It shows a giant reticulated python floating in flood waters after eating a dog.

A video shot in Pattani province on December 1 shows a large snake with a distended belly on a submerged road. Shared by the X handle @AMAZINGNATURE, the clip was captioned: “This huge snake, possibly a reticulated python, was spotted wriggling around in flood waters in southern Thailand.”

The video has gone viral with almost two lakh views. One user wrote, ‘Thailand has been removed from my bucket list. Another user commented, “It’s a reticulated python belly up, which means it’s either dead or in deep distress. Poor thing.”

“That belly-blowing horror is human-sized, too!” A third user said.

According to UCA News, an independent Catholic news source in Asia, five southern provincesā€”Pattani, Narathiwat, Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Phattalungā€”have been severely affected, forcing more than 33,000 people to flee their homes, according to a ministry spokesman in Thailand. Public Health said in a statement.

The Department of Mineral Resources has warned of possible landslides and flash floods in southern Thailand until December 5, while rescue operations continue.
